I have used my ASIST training weekly for the last 15 years and know firsthand how it helps save lives. SafeTALK – SafeTALK is a half day suicide alertness training. In SafeTALK you learn to recognize that someone might be having thoughts of suicide, to connect with them, and to take them to someone who can complete the intervention.

Stress Related Mental Health Training Descriptions

Trauma Basics:  This talk will define and explore trauma. It will look at both how trauma affects a person, as well as trauma informed care practices.

 

We will learn:

·      How trauma affects your sense of self

·      How trauma affects your body

·      How affects your relationships

·      How to reclaim your self, body and relationships

·      How to work with someone that has experienced trauma

 

We will explore the concepts of safety and self throughout the presentation.

 

Vicarious Trauma (VT):  This talk will define and explore VT and the unique features that makes it different from compassion fatigue and burnout.

 

We will Learn:

·      That vicarious trauma is trauma!

·      How primary trauma affects an individual

·      The symptoms of VT, and what they look like in the workplace

·      The symptoms of VT, and what they look like in the at home

 

Finally, we will learn protective practices that will help keep us safe at work, and even practice one of them together.

 

Compassion Fatigue:  This talk will define and explore compassion fatigue, how it can affect the most caring people we know, and how to avoid it while remaining compassionate.

 

We will learn:

·      How compassion fatigue develops, and the symptoms you may notice

·      How to ease the burden of the compassionate caregiver (hint-this may be you)

·      How to use mindfulness of “self” and “other” to keep yourself safe

·      Vicarious growth and compassion success, protective factors

 

We will explore compassion success and vicarious growth experientially to complete the talk.

 

Workplace Burnout:  This talk will define and explore burnout, what creates it, and what to do about it.

 

We will learn:

·      The three main symptoms of workplace burnout

·      The workplace situations that lead to workplace burnout

·      How the increased demands of COVID has lead to increased workplace burnout

·      Changes you can make at work and at home that decrease workplace burnout

 

We will end the session with an employee affirmation exercise to help ground us in our worth!

 

Management Techniques That Lessen Vicarious Trauma, Compassion Fatigue and workplace Burnout:  

 

This course will suggest management techniques that help protect employees and their managers from the shared effects of Vicarious Trauma, Compassion Fatigue and Workplace Burnout, as well as focussed techniques for the unique needs of each of these.

 

We will learn:

·      About the Polyvagal Nervous System

·      The Window of Tolerance

·      Relational Mindfulness Meditation

·      The Heightened Nervous System Baseline

·      The importance of social connection in the workplace, and at home

·      Pendulum Processing in debriefing

 

Key Ideas:

·      Survival of the Nurtured

·      Attunement Focussed Management

·      The Key Role of “Self” as understood through the Person-Centred lens

·      The silver lining in any difficult situation is the connection that we are able to maintain in spite of it. 

 

We will end with a discussion on care for the caregiver. We as managers need this type of care as well. One cannot fill a cup from an empty jug.
